Book Inventory & Author Event Requests

About Us

Ink Fish Books is a woman-owned independent bookstore with a passion for books, food, and culture. Providing a friendly customer experience for browsing new and gently used books. Ink Fish Books supports local authors and makers by hosting special events, curating the Rhody Reader Box, and fostering collaborative community connections.

We strive to support each of the amazing authors in the Rhode Island region. As a small, independent bookstore we have limited retail space, and take pride in a highly curated inventory of fiction (both popular and literary), cookbooks, health and well-being, memoir, narrative nonfiction, travel, nature, gardening, history, and books with a local focus on Warren, the East Bay, or Rhode Island.

We work directly with publishing houses and Ingram to stock book inventory from trade and independent publishers. For self-published authors, we offer a consignment program which allows us to carry a variety of locally produced titles, and offer prime shelf space for entrepreneurial authors and makers.

Every month we host events such as author talks, readings, signings, workshops, demos, story times, and food pop-ups. We are a community-focused bookstore and partner with libraries, schools, non-profits, and small businesses to foster connections that elevate our town, county, and state.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is your selection criteria when deciding to carry a self-published book?

We choose books by local authors, about local issues, and/or books that fit with the brand of our store. Self-published books are often eligible for our consignment program. If you’d like us to consider including your book in our inventory, please fill out the request form below. Only submissions that come through the form below will be considered. Please do not submit a physical book unless requested. Submitted books will not be returned.

General Consignment Information (subject to change)

  • Books/products must have a professional production quality, marketing plan, and a spine displaying the title and author’s name (no spiral-bound books).

  • You will receive 55% of the retail value per book sold.

  • Payments will be sent throughout the year as a reasonable number of books/products are sold.

  • Ink Fish Books agrees to display books on a consignment basis for a minimum of six months. If there is a six month period without sales, the books will be returned and not restocked. Please let us know when you have a new title for consideration.

How far in advance can I contact you to schedule an event?

We schedule our events at least 2-3 months in advance but need time before scheduling to learn more about you and your book. If you have a future pub date, please fill out the request form (below) as early in the year as you can. If your book was recently published, we welcome those requests on a rolling basis.

What is your selection criteria when deciding which events to host?

We select events that align with our brand, the community (our readers), the seasonal publishing schedule, and the potential for an audience.
